The Role

As a hands-on, commercially minded Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of the company’s internal financial operations and support the CFO in driving financial performance, operational excellence, and strategic initiatives.

This role is central to ensuring accurate financial reporting, efficient financial processes, and robust planning to support decision-making across the business. You’ll thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and bring both technical finance expertise and commercial acumen.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensuring strong financial control and compliance.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts and board packs, including KPIs.
  • Lead statutory reporting, audit, tax filings, and liaison with external advisors.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting systems and processes to support scalability.

FP&A and Business Partnering

  • Develop and manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow modelling processes.
  • Provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Partner with department heads to track performance against budgets and initiatives.
  • Drive data-driven decision-making through dashboards and performance metrics.

Commercial & Contract Support

  • Work closely with the CFO and sales teams on pricing, deal structuring, and customer contracts.
  • Review and advise on commercial terms, revenue recognition, and margin impacts.

Strategic & M&A Support

  • Assist the CFO in preparing materials for investors, lenders, and potential acquirers.
  • Support financial due diligence, integration, and post-transaction activities as required.
  • Contribute to scenario modelling and strategic financial analysis.

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Manage and mentor a small finance team (finance manager, FP&A manager, office manager).
  • Ensure a high-performing, collaborative culture within the finance function.
  • Support team development through coaching, clear goal setting, and feedback.
  • Champion continuous improvement, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.

About You

Essential

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with 8 years+ progressive post-qualification experience.
  • ‘In-house’ experience, including within a similar scale B2B org (c£6m ARR/ c70 employees)
  • Proven track record in financial control, reporting, and operational finance.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS metrics (ARR, churn, CAC, LTV)
  • Experience leading small finance teams in a growth-stage environment, ensuring strong internal partnering and delivery against internal & statutory deadlines.
  • Tech savvy; adopter of new technologies and proficient with financial and other key systems and applications (eg Xero, Maxio billing, Mosaic/HiBob Finance), along with Excel/FP&A tools.
  • A strong knowledge of Xero and Excel.
  • Ability to analyse business performance and write clear, concise commentary.
  • Commercially curious, detail-oriented, and analytically strong.
  • Natural people leader and collaborator who builds trust, accountability, and engagement.
  • Calm and composed under pressure, with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
  • High integrity and professionalism, with strong communication and influencing skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within a SaaS/ tech-based business.
  • Experience of/ ability to partner with revenue teams on commercial contract terms.
  • Exposure to M&A transactions, investor reporting, or due diligence processes.
  • Experience in a VC- or PE-backed environment.
