Are you an experienced accountant looking for a varied role within a successful and expanding organisation in the aviation industry? Our client is offering an exciting opportunity to join their finance team on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for the role to become permanent.
Working closely with the Chief Financial Risk Officer, you'll take ownership of a broad range of financial responsibilities across multiple business entities. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both financial and management accounting, thrives in a collaborative environment, and likes getting involved in improving processes as a business grows.
The role is offered on a part-time basis (3-4 days per week) with the possibility of increasing hours in the future.
The Role
This is a hands-on accounting position with genuine variety. You'll be involved in the day-to-day financial management of the business whilst also supporting budgeting, reporting and commercial decision-making.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the full sales and purchase ledger
- Credit control and supplier payments
- Bank reconciliations and multi-currency treasury management (GBP, EUR and USD)
- Monitoring cash flow and weekly payment planning
- Maintaining fixed asset and stock records
- Processing employee expenses and company credit cards
- Managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns
- Maintaining the general ledger and supporting month and year-end processes
- Assisting with annual audit preparation
- Producing monthly management accounts and financial analysis
- Supporting budgeting and cash flow forecasting
- Preparing management reports for senior stakeholders
- Liaising with external accountants where required
- Responding to ad hoc financial reporting requests
- Supporting continuous improvement projects and helping streamline finance processes
As the business continues to grow, you'll also have the opportunity to become involved in exciting future projects, including systems implementation, process automation and supporting international expansion.
The Candidate
We're looking for an experienced accountant who enjoys working across a broad remit and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
You'll ideally have:
- Around five years' accounting experience
- Strong financial accounting knowledge, with experience managing accounts for a legal entity
- Good management accounting experience, including month-end reporting and analysis
- Excellent working knowledge of UK VAT, including preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Experience of multi-currency transactions
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- A proactive, organised approach and the ability to manage changing priorities
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively across the business
- An interest in improving systems and processes through technology
Ideally, you have an AAT L4 or higher qualification (or studying towards Level 4).
A degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and/or previous aviation experience would be beneficial but is by no means essential.
The Package
- Up to £45,000 FTE*
- 3-4 days per week (with potential to increase hours in the future if desired)
- Standard working hours 8.30am-5.00pm with half hour break.
- Initial 12-month fixed-term contract with potential to become permanent

The role is primarily office-based at our client's offices near Biggin Hill, with flexibility to work remotely one day per week where required.
