Part-time Practice Accountant, 2 days/wk (or equiv), REMOTE, up to £45k FTE

-Location: Home-based, with occasional meetings in North or Central London (1–2 times per month)
-Salary: £35,000–£45,000 FTE* (£14,000–£18,000 for 2 days per week)
-Hours: Initially 2 days per week, with potential to increase to 4 days as the practice grows

Are you an experienced Practice Accountant looking for a flexible, predominantly home-based role where you can take ownership of your own clients and make a real contribution to a growing business?

Our client is a small, friendly and growing accountancy practice providing accounting, bookkeeping, tax and advisory services to a varied portfolio of small businesses.

They're looking for a capable, organised and proactive accountant who enjoys building client relationships, managing a varied workload and working independently.

The Role

Working closely with the Practice Director and Accounts Assistant, you'll take responsibility for your own portfolio of small business clients, becoming their main point of contact and ensuring they receive a responsive, high-quality service.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a portfolio of sole trader, partnership and limited company clients
• Preparing year-end accounts, from client records through to final financial statements
• Providing bookkeeping support using Excel and cloud accounting software, including setting up systems for clients
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns and Making Tax Digital submissions
• Supporting self-assessment and corporation tax requirements
• Assisting with management accounts and other financial reporting
• Responding to client queries, building strong relationships and providing practical support
• Managing multiple assignments, prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working

About You

We're looking for someone with a solid background in UK accountancy practice who is comfortable managing their own workload and communicating directly with clients.

You'll bring:

• At least 3 years' UK accountancy practice experience gained within the last 5 years
• Strong bookkeeping skills and excellent working knowledge of Xero or FreeAgent
• Experience preparing year-end accounts using TaxCalc or similar software
• Experience with VAT returns, self-assessment, corporation tax and payroll submissions
• Experience working with a variety of small business clients
• Good Excel skills and confidence using cloud-based accounting systems
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• A proactive, detail-focused approach and the ability to work independently

AAT, ACCA or ACA qualifications (full or part) would be advantageous, although relevant experience is equally important. Experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues would also be welcome.
