The Role
Working collaboratively with the Head of Finance, you’ll perform reconciliations, process transactions, prepare monthly management accounts, monitor budgets, and will provide support for additional operational needs.
You’ll also be responsible for the team’s adherence to compliance with AXA Group, FCA and financial accountancy standards, providing evidence as appropriate. Key responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the reconciliation of premium income and commission payments between the policy management database and the accounting system
- Assist in the production of monthly management accounts
- Produce month end balance sheet reconciliations
- Process payments on online banking
- Responsible for the development of meaningful management information
- Assist with annual budgeting and planning process and ad hoc forecasts
- Support cost control and expense management and ensure compliance with Regulations and financial control procedures
- Support the preparation of the annual financial statements and the external audit
- Maintain a working understanding of and assume ownership of all assigned accounting tasks
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external clients and business partners
- Develop an understanding of the FCA and regulatory requirements and the responsibilities to ensure compliance
- Deal with more complex queries on behalf of colleagues
- Be flexible and hungry to learn and develop
The Candidate
As Management Accountant, you’ll be self-motivated, able to work independently and multi-task to ensure work is completed within deadlines. You’ll have:
- A recognised accounting qualification – part qualified considered
- Up to date working knowledge of accounting standards and issues gained in a financial regulated environment
- Excellent spreadsheet skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in bookkeeping with experience in QuickBooks preferred
- Experience of effectively managing multiple priorities and working to tight deadlines
- A highly methodical and process-orientated approach
- Commercial, pragmatic, self-starter, high work ethic, goal orientated, able to identify areas for improvement
- Willingness to work as part of a small but growing team and desire to take on increased responsibility as the organisation expands

Terms
- The role is for approximately 13 months to cover maternity leave.
- The role requires 25-30 hours per week.
- The hours must be worked over 4 or 5 days, one of which must be a Friday.
- The role is office based in Watford.
- A salary of up to £50k FTE* is on offer, pro rata, (£35,714-£42,857 actual salary).
- The role is based on a 35 hr standard working week.
- The current Management Accountant is going on maternity leave in July. This role will start by mid-June to allow for a hand-over period.
